Fifis Aux guide

Record the sound.
Keep only what matters.

Everything you need to go from first launch to a precisely trimmed audio clip.

Quick start

  1. Choose your downloadUse Apple Silicon for an M-series Mac or Intel for a 64-bit Intel Mac. Both require macOS 13 or later.
  2. Open Fifis AuxInstall the app in Applications and launch it normally.
  3. Press Live RecordGrant macOS permission the first time, then reopen the app once.
  4. Play the soundFifis Aux captures your Mac’s internal playback, never the microphone.
  5. Press stopThe finished file appears in the recording library.
  6. Open and trimSelect the recording, drag A–B markers and save the part you want.

Screen Recording permission

macOS groups system-audio access under Screen Recording. Fifis Aux uses Apple’s ScreenCaptureKit for audio and discards screen frames; no video is written.

First launch

Press Record once, approve the native macOS request, quit Fifis Aux and reopen it. The grant should remain attached to the signed app across updates.

If the app is not listed, make sure the release is installed in Applications and was signed by the publisher. Repeatedly moving or rebuilding an unsigned development copy can produce unstable permission identity.

Live Record

Press the large waveform button to begin and the stop symbol to finish. The timer shows captured time; while saving or converting, the control stays disabled to protect the output.

Start automatically when sound plays

Enable this option to arm the recorder. Fifis Aux waits for an audible buffer before it begins writing and starts the timer when sound is detected. This is useful when playback begins a few seconds after you are ready.

Edit & Loop

Click a recording in the library or drop a supported audio file onto the window. The waveform editor supports precise selection without requiring a full audio workstation.

Navigate the waveform

  • Click to move the playhead.
  • Mouse wheel to zoom beneath the pointer.
  • Horizontal scroll or Shift-scroll to move through a zoomed file.
  • Navigator slider to jump across the recording.
  • Double-click to select the whole recording.

Create an A–B selection

Drag across the waveform to place A and B. Drag either flag to refine it. Turn on Loop A→B to audition the exact selection repeatedly, then choose Save A–B clip. Every export receives a unique filename, so an earlier clip is never silently overwritten.

Settings

MP3Small, compatible files for everyday use.

Recording location

Choose any writable folder for new live recordings. Changing the location does not move existing files. Use Default returns to Music/Audio Recorder.

Recording library

The lower panel lists supported audio files from the selected folder, newest first. Click a row to edit it. Use the magnifying glass to reveal it in Finder, or right-click to rename, reveal or move it to the Trash.

Troubleshooting

The permission prompt keeps returning

Use one installed copy from Applications. Confirm Fifis Aux is enabled in Privacy & Security → Screen Recording, then quit and reopen it. A commercially distributed copy must use a stable Developer ID signature and notarization.

No audio was captured

Start playback after recording begins and verify the Mac is producing audible system output. With automatic start enabled, the app remains armed until the signal crosses its threshold.

A file will not load

Fifis Aux accepts MP3, WAV, M4A and FLAC. A damaged file may use a supported extension but still be unreadable; the editor clears the previous waveform and reports the error.
